About

I, Partha Joardar, am an abstract expressionist and a pioneer of the burnt style.

Professionally defined as an artist accompanied with over 35 years of experience, I have dabbled among many fields of artistic expression with my journey starting with the contemporary style. In 1992, I had my first encounter with action painting, a form of abstract expressionism, when my motive was to create something beyond the boundaries of speech and wonted expression.

Unknowingly, from that moment my life was bound to this expanse of unexplored domain and for the last 30 years I have been seeking new ways to understand this form of art and its depth through observant experimentations, at times by sudden incoherent splashes of colour on various media or by erratically burning the very canvas, and each time I was taken aback by the profundity and spectacular variations it results into.

Discovery at a bargain and an unending exploration brought me deeper into the quagmire of understanding the prospects of this budding technique and its application as I trudged forth, unrelenting, with numerous senior contemporary group exhibitions spread across the nation including exhibitions at Sanskrit Art Gallery (1991), Gandhar Art Gallery (1993), Chitrakut Art Gallery (1996, 1998, 2010) and Academy of Fine Arts (2022). Alongside group exhibitions, I was fateful to conduct a legion of multifarious solo exhibitions and workshops since 1992 in favoured places like Kolkata, Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar and Bangalore with collections outspread all over the globe.

Further building upon my artistic database, I have found passion in working as a professional fashion photographer (since 2001) and as a set designer for a myriad of events hosted by corporate companies like Zee Saregama (Bombay-2005), Birla (Kolkata-2006), Bajaj (Kolkata-2004) and such while also working with the Indian Army for the ASCON launch event in 2005. Additionally, I also have experience working as an accomplished Durga Puja theme maker in Kolkata for the last 20 years acquiring more than 400 awards for my work.
